Our Beers

Agony

Barrel Aged Fruit Sour Ale. It takes two years to brew this traditional sour ale. Like the best sour beer brewers of old, we age it in locally sourced Napa wine barrels. We use multiple strains of Brettanomyces (including one only found in our valley) and various local bacteria. This allows the beer to develop those funky flavors and sourness. We keep Agony balanced. It is never going to strip the enamel off your teeth or burn a hole in your stomach. Agony showcases our passion for traditional brewing techniques using locally grown and sourced fruits.

Alternating Current

I challenged everyone on the brewing team at Heretic Brewing Company to come up with a big beer recipe, this was Andrew Conlon's. It's pricey, because of what went into brewing it. It took nearly two years to make from brew day to release, spending over a year in fresh dumped 10 year old Heaven Hill bourbon barrels. We use single-source, locally roasted First Crack Coffee and Madagascar vanilla beans. The end result is a 15.1% smooth, luscious, complex imperial stout. The name comes from Andrew's initials, but also the alternating effect of coffee versus alcohol. I hope you all enjoy this really limited beer.

Barrel Aged, ABV 15.1%, IBU 40, SRM 50

Bitter Truth

A traditional English-style pale ale.

ABV 4.0%, IBU 30, SRM 4

Black Maria

A collaboration with our good friends at Faction Brewing. Dark and bold, but smooth and easy.

ABV 10.4%, IBU 65, SRM 50

Blood of Jupiter

A collaboration with our good friends at Green Valley Cellars. They grow their own grapes and ferment naturally, with the yeast present on the skins of the grapes. When they remove the wine from the skins we add it to one of our fermenters with some wort. Sometimes we'll go out to their vineyard and pick a few extra buckets of grapes and toss those in too. It ferments out with the yeast and bacteria present on the grapes plus a little of our ale yeast for good measure. The result is a delicious beer that straddles the line of beer and wine.

Barrel Aged, ABV 5.4%, IBU 2, SRM 10

Bovine Intervention

Milk stout. Creamy, smooth.

ABV 5.2%, IBU 35, SRM 50

Cement Hill

Named after the folks that supply us our water, this is a nice, balanced American pale ale.

ABV 4.6%, IBU 35, SRM 6

Chocolate Hazelnut Porter (CHP)

Chocolate Hazelnut Porter, or CHP as we call it, is a rich, full-flavored, robust porter bursting with luscious Guittard cocoa and hazelnut. Notes of coffee and caramel round out this delicious treat. Beer lovers declare our Chocolate Hazelnut Porter is a dessert in a glass, but it has a nice semi-dry finish that keeps it easy drinking and not too heavy to drink by the pint.

ABV 7.0%, IBU 33, SRM 35, Year Round

Cruel Beauty

We take our award wining Shallow Grave porter and put it in red wine barrels with Brettanomyces, bacteria, and tart cherry puree. After two years, we have Cruel Beauty. The delicate balance of chocolate, slightly tart cherries, oak, and the funk of the Brettanomyces is a thing of beauty. The cruel part is that we have to wait another two years for the next batch.

Sour-Funky, Barrel Aged, ABV 7.8%, IBU 33, SRM 35

Dead Santa

Holiday spiced porter.

ABV 7.0%, IBU 33, SRM 35

Dead Weight

A rich, full, malty English style barleywine. We made Dead Weight by cramming as much pale ale and British crystal malt as the mash tun would hold, then we added a bunch of English Kent Goldings hops to balance the beer and add delicate hop notes. It is rich, it is big, and it is tasty.

ABV 10.5%, IBU 44, SRM 12

Ecstasy

Barleywine with blackberries aged for three years in wine barrels with Brettanomyces and bacteria.

Sour-Funky, Barrel Aged, ABV 11.0%, IBU 30, SRM 12

Empire

Big, rich, malty, roasty, complex. These deep and intense flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and dark fruit are almost all malt driven. It takes a huge amount of malt to brew this beer and we only get about 2/3 of our normal yield. It makes for a challenging brew day too, but we think you are worth it.

ABV 12.0%, IBU 45, SRM 50

Evil Bee

A collaboration with our good friends at Moonlight Meadery. A combination of delicious orange blossom honey, fine malt, and Mosaic hops.

ABV 6.5%, IBU 60, SRM 2

Evil Cousin

Double IPA. Almost everybody has their favorite cousin. Ours is a resiny citrus and pine joy with an easy drinking malt character. We love hanging out with our cousin at the beach, camping, hiking and every holiday party. Why not welcome our cousin to your next family gathering?

ABV 8.0%, IBU 100, SRM 4, Year Round

Evil Quadruplets

A collaboration with our good friend Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergs? of Evil Twin Brewing. We share the Evil Twin trademark and thought what better way to celebrate?it than brewing a beer? A big beer. A beer worthy of two evil twins coming together and making Evil Quadruplets. Despite the name, it isn't a Belgian quad. Instead it is our Evil Twin beer brewed to 14.5% using a new technique called poly gyle where we use the wort from the first batch of grain to dough in a second batch, resulting in a super strength wort.

ABV 14.5%, IBU 45, SRM 18

Evil Twin

Red IPA. This blood-red ale may not be what you expect from a malty and hoppy craft beer. Evil Twin has a rich malt character, without being overly sweet. It has a huge hop character, without being overly bitter. It is a great example of a bold, rich, balanced craft beer, without being heavy and hard to drink in quantity. Our Evil Twin is only bad because it is too good to resist.

ABV 6.8%, IBU 45, SRM 18, Year Round

Evil3

This is the story of three friends: Tasty McDole, Mitch Steele, and Jamil Zainasheff. Three bold men with hops in their blood and crazy in their hearts. Once a year around the holidays these three passionate brewers come together to concoct a beer that represents their lifelong bond. A beer that is bold. A beer that is hoppy. A beer to share with your best friends. Last year's batch used citrusy Amarillo, stone fruity Citra, and pungent Simcoe hops balanced with just the right malt character to delight your pallet. We release this beer only once a year, the day before the Superbowl. People that show up that day get to fill their growlers directly from the fermenter. That is right, you can't get beer any fresher than that. Supplies are limited. First come, first served.

ABV 11.5%, IBU 100, SRM 4

Fresh IPA

Always Rotating Modern Hop IPA. Do you love the new fruity, juicy IPA trend? So do we. (Hey, if its got hops, we dig it.) So here is a super easy drinking IPA that features all those new, trendy, and experimental hops. Each batch features a dazzling selection of the most in-demand hops. Lots of tropical fruit and citrus notes in every batch. (Hops used are noted on every keg.)

ABV 6.5%, IBU 60, SRM 6

Gramarye (GRAM-uh-ree)

Gramarye is the practice of learning magic. For thousands of years, people have used a grimoire (book of magic) to cast spells and summon spirits. Of course, magic fell out of favor over the centuries, the same as brewing with rye. Interest in magic seems to be on the upswing these days and so is the interest in brewing with rye. A coincidence? This GABF gold medal winner is our take on a session pale ale made with a dose of rye malt to give it that luscious feel and snappy finish. We think it is magical.

ABV 4.4%, IBU 28, SRM 10

Grapefruit IPA

Easy drinking IPA with mosaic and a generous dose of fresh grapefruit.

ABV 6.2%, IBU 60, SRM 4

Incubus

What is better than a big, rich, malty, roasty Imperial Stout? Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels for six months. Barrel aging not only adds vanilla, toast, bourbon, and other flavors, it mellows the beer, making it richer, smoother and even more delicious.

Barrel Aged, ABV 12.0%, IBU 45, SRM 50

Lager

Classic German-style Munich Helles. As much as we love bold, in-your-face hop monsters and giant barrel-aged stouts, we still enjoy drinking a clean, delicate, balanced lager. We brew our Heretic Lager in the traditional style of a Munich Helles using only the finest German malt, hops, yeast and our wonderful local water. Prost!

Lager, ABV 5.4%, IBU 20, SRM 4, Year Round

Make America Juicy Again

Hazy New England-style IPA. This is all about bringing the juice back to American beer. It isn?t about big football commercials and fancy packaging. It is about the liquid in the can. We spent our money (which is your money if you think about it) on an insane amount of the best hops available, so the can ain?t fancy, but the beer certainly is. Hazy, luscious, and full of juicy hops. This beer is brewed with no bittering hop addition, just whirlpool and insane amounts of dry hopping. That results in a gentle bittering and a huge, juicy hop profile. Vote Juicy!

ABV 6.5%, IBU 40, SRM 3

Miscreant

It took us four years to perfect our first batch of Miscreant. Similar to the sour beers of Flanders, Miscreant is a beer for those with a love of and a palate for complex beers. Dark, tart, malty, with a balancing sweetness. This beer utilizes a complex culture of yeast, other organisms, and oak aging to obtain its rich complexity. With each sip you will find notes of tart cherries, vanilla, chocolate, and more.

Sour-Funky, Barrel Aged, ABV 6.5%, IBU 20, SRM 30

Modified Clyde

Classic English dark mild.

ABV 4.0%, IBU 20, SRM 25

Mooie Bierbos

Belgian session IPA. A hoppy Belgian ale dry hopped with Mosaic and New Zealand Southern Cross hops. For the curious,"Mooie Bierbos" is Dutch and translates literally to "Nice Beer Forest," which is our fun reference to a hoppy Belgian beer.

ABV 5.4%, IBU 40, SRM 4

Oktoberfest

A classic Oktoberfest.

Lager, ABV 5.4%, IBU 25, SRM 10

Petit Rouge

Go ahead, hold it up to the light. Super cool color, right? That is all from the hibiscus flowers. We brew a sessionable Belgian blonde ale and then abuse it with an insane amount of hibiscus. It gives the beer that red color and a wonderful tart cranberry/pomegranate fruitiness. Wow, who would have thought flowers in beer would be so awesome.

ABV 5.4%, IBU 15, SRM 10, Year Round

Popenator

A classic doppelbock.

Lager, ABV 10.6%, IBU 22, SRM 12

Primo Diablo

Primo Diablo (Devil Cousin) will blow your taste buds away. We take our big, sticky double IPA and infuse it with loads of habanero chili peppers. Their heat, citrusy flavor and floral aroma compliment the bold hops beautifully in this craft beer that isn't for the faint of heat (or heart).

ABV 8.0%, IBU 100, SRM 4, Year Round

Scallywag

A hoppy Irish red.

ABV 5.4%, IBU 30, SRM 14

Shallow Grave

Shallow Grave Porter is dark as night, perfect for a cool evening out in the woods. This is a big, dark ale with a complex and rich chocolate and caramel malt character followed by a touch of warmth and light malt sweetness, leaving you ready for more after each shovelful. You will love this so much you won?t have time to dig a six-footer, so make it a Shallow Grave. We?re sure you?ll dig it. World Cup and GABF medal winner.

ABV 7.0%, IBU 33, SRM 33, Year Round

Succubus

Bourbon barrel aged Torment.

Barrel Aged, ABV 11.0%, IBU 18, SRM 18

Tafelbully

Tafelbully (TAH-full bully). This limited release, Belgian-inspired table beer is based on a recipe from our friend Matt Staley. (This was actually the first beer we ever brewed!) It has a nice upfront Brettanomyces character, a cracker like pilsner malt note, a crisp finish, and a subtle citrus/pine Amarillo hop note in the background. It takes about 8 months for the Brettanomyces character to develop, which is why it is only available for a short time and limited quantities. Get some before it is gone! (Stored at cellar temperatures, this beer will continue to develop more Brettanomyces character and can be saved for years.)

Sour-Funky, ABV 5.4%, IBU 20, SRM 4

Tartuffe

A tartuffe (tar-TOOF) is a hypocrite who feigns religious virtue. Heretic's Tartuffe is our take on a Berliner Weisse-style ale. We love the tart, refreshing character that comes from using lots of wheat malt and kettle souring with just the right critters. Try it by itself or mit schuss, which is the traditional German addition of raspberry or woodruff syrup. Either way, enjoying life is a true virtue. Tartuffe A Tart Berliner Weisse-Style Ale. Varies Fruit versions available seasonally

Sour-Funky, ABV 4.8%, IBU 4, SRM Varies, Year Round

Three Days Grace

Saison with apricots aged six months in white wine barrels with Brettanomyces.

Barrel Aged, ABV 6.4%, IBU 20, SRM 6

Torment

This 10% Belgian-style dark ale is the dark counterpart to Worry. Torment is a rich beer with lots of caramel, malt, dark fruit, and Belgian candi sugar notes. The luscious fruity character is full of caramel apples, candied pears, and chocolate covered oranges.

ABV 10.0%, IBU 20, SRM 17, Year Round

Worry

This golden blond Belgian-style ale is a symphony of bold and delicate wrapped into one. We took our 10% Belgian-style golden ale and aged it in Grgich Hill Estate Chardonnay barrels. It has a gentle warming with a light alcohol sweetness and a tantalizing fruity character full of apples, pears, and oranges. The barrel aging give it a great Chardonnay character and a dry finish.

Barrel Aged, ABV 10.0%, IBU 20, SRM 3
