Agony

Barrel Aged Fruit Sour Ale. It takes two years to brew this traditional sour ale. Like the best sour beer brewers of old, we age it in locally sourced Napa wine barrels. We use multiple strains of Brettanomyces (including one only found in our valley) and various local bacteria. This allows the beer to develop those funky flavors and sourness. We keep Agony balanced. It is never going to strip the enamel off your teeth or burn a hole in your stomach. Agony showcases our passion for traditional brewing techniques using locally grown and sourced fruits. Sour/Funky

Alternating Current

I challenged everyone on the brewing team at Heretic Brewing Company to come up with a big beer recipe, this was Andrew Conlon's. It's pricey, because of what went into brewing it. It took nearly two years to make from brew day to release, spending over a year in fresh dumped 10 year old Heaven Hill bourbon barrels. We use single-source, locally roasted First Crack Coffee and Madagascar vanilla beans. The end result is a 15.1% smooth, luscious, complex imperial stout. The name comes from Andrew's initials, but also the alternating effect of coffee versus alcohol. I hope you all enjoy this really limited beer. Barrel Aged

Blood of Jupiter

A collaboration with our good friends at Green Valley Cellars. They grow their own grapes and ferment naturally, with the yeast present on the skins of the grapes. When they remove the wine from the skins we add it to one of our fermenters with some wort. Sometimes we'll go out to their vineyard and pick a few extra buckets of grapes and toss those in too. It ferments out with the yeast and bacteria present on the grapes plus a little of our ale yeast for good measure. The result is a delicious beer that straddles the line of beer and wine. ABV 5.4%

Chocolate Hazelnut Porter (CHP)

Chocolate Hazelnut Porter, or CHP as we call it, is a rich, full-flavored, robust porter bursting with luscious Guittard cocoa and hazelnut. Notes of coffee and caramel round out this delicious treat. Beer lovers declare our Chocolate Hazelnut Porter is a dessert in a glass, but it has a nice semi-dry finish that keeps it easy drinking and not too heavy to drink by the pint. ABV 7.0%

Cruel Beauty

We take our award wining Shallow Grave porter and put it in red wine barrels with Brettanomyces, bacteria, and tart cherry puree. After two years, we have Cruel Beauty. The delicate balance of chocolate, slightly tart cherries, oak, and the funk of the Brettanomyces is a thing of beauty. The cruel part is that we have to wait another two years for the next batch. Empire

Big, rich, malty, roasty, complex. These deep and intense flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and dark fruit are almost all malt driven. It takes a huge amount of malt to brew this beer and we only get about 2/3 of our normal yield. It makes for a challenging brew day too, but we think you are worth it. ABV 12%

Evil Quadruplets

A collaboration with our good friend Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø of Evil Twin Brewing. We share the Evil Twin trademark and thought what better way to celebrate it than brewing a beer? A big beer. A beer worthy of two evil twins coming together and making Evil Quadruplets. Despite the name, it isn't a Belgian quad. Instead it is our Evil Twin beer brewed to 14.5% using a new technique called poly gyle where we use the wort from the first batch of grain to dough in a second batch, resulting in a super strength wort. Evil3

Evil3This is the story of three friends: Tasty McDole, Mitch Steele, and Jamil Zainasheff. Three bold men with hops in their blood and crazy in their hearts. Once a year around the holidays these three passionate brewers come together to concoct a beer that represents their lifelong bond. A beer that is bold. A beer that is hoppy. A beer to share with your best friends. Last year's batch used citrusy Amarillo, stone fruity Citra, and pungent Simcoe hops balanced with just the right malt character to delight your pallet. We release this beer only once a year, the day before the Superbowl. People that show up that day get to fill their growlers directly from the fermenter. That is right, you can't get beer any fresher than that. Supplies are limited. First come, first served. ABV 11.5%

Evil Twin

Red IPA. This blood-red ale may not be what you expect from a malty and hoppy craft beer. Evil Twin has a rich malt character, without being overly sweet. It has a huge hop character, without being overly bitter. It is a great example of a bold, rich, balanced craft beer, without being heavy and hard to drink in quantity. Gramarye (GRAM-uh-ree)

medalGramarye is the practice of learning magic. For thousands of years, people have used a grimoire (book of magic) to cast spells and summon spirits. Of course, magic fell out of favor over the centuries, the same as brewing with rye. Interest in magic seems to be on the upswing these days and so is the interest in brewing with rye. A coincidence? This GABF gold medal winner is our take on a session pale ale made with a dose of rye malt to give it that luscious feel and snappy finish. We think it is magical. ABV 4.4%

Make America Juicy Again

Hazy New England-style IPA. This is all about bringing the juice back to American beer. It isn’t about big football commercials and fancy packaging. It is about the liquid in the can. We spent our money (which is your money if you think about it) on an insane amount of the best hops available, so the can ain’t fancy, but the beer certainly is. Hazy, luscious, and full of juicy hops. This beer is brewed with no bittering hop addition, just whirlpool and insane amounts of dry hopping. That results in a gentle bittering and a huge, juicy hop profile. Vote Juicy! ABV 6.5%

Mandarin IPA

We all love mandarin oranges and the best in the world come from our local hills. Once a year we're blessed with a dedicated farmer from Colwell Thundering Herd Mandarin Ranch that brings us a huge amount of fresh pressed mandarin juice and we put it all (minus a few pints for personal consumption) into a super juicy IPA. Tafelbully (TAH-full bully). This limited release, Belgian-inspired table beer is based on a recipe from our friend Matt Staley. (This was actually the first beer we ever brewed!) It has a nice upfront Brettanomyces character, a cracker like pilsner malt note, a crisp finish, and a subtle citrus/pine Amarillo hop note in the background. It takes about 8 months for the Brettanomyces character to develop, which is why it is only available for a short time and limited quantities. Get some before it is gone! Tartuffe

A tartuffe (tar-TOOF) is a hypocrite who feigns religious virtue. Heretic's Tartuffe is our take on a Berliner Weisse-style ale. We love the tart, refreshing character that comes from using lots of wheat malt and kettle souring with just the right critters. Try it by itself or mit schuss, which is the traditional German addition of raspberry or woodruff syrup. Either way, enjoying life is a true virtue. Tartuffe A Tart Berliner Weisse-Style Ale.
